Who should take this class?

Everyone.

Parents-to-be with pets, grandparents with pets, and grandparents without pets (or who may get pets in the future) who want to understand more about their grandchildren growing up around pets should take this class.

Hi, I’m Cathy Rosenthal,

Throughout my 30 years working for local animal shelters and national humane organizations, I have focused on one overarching goal: helping pets and their families live harmoniously together. I believe the more we understand our pets, the better we can anticipate how our pets might react to changes in our lives and help them adjust more quickly.

In 2003, I launched the Pets and Your Baby class to help pet parents prepare their pets for the changes that occur when a new baby or child is added to the family. Since then, I have given this program to thousands of couples at humane societies and hospitals. Now I am bringing these resources online so more expectant parents can get the information they need to prepare their pets for the newest family member.

I also have been a mom with pets and a new baby in the home. I know what you are feeling as the big day approaches. Together, I bring experience and knowledge about how to help pets navigate this life change and ensure things go smoothly once the baby is born.

Pets are part of the family and can remain part of the family with a little planning and patience. The efforts you put forth now in helping everyone adjust will be seen later when you see how happy your child is to have a dog or cat as a friend.
I hope we can work together to make things go smoothly in your home.

“I have an easy-going dog and wasn’t too concerned about how she would react to my baby. But I decided to take the class to see if there was anything I needed to be concerned about and to see what tips could make the transition easier for my dog. I can’t believe all I learned. This definitely made things easier for my family.”

Ashley G.

"I took this class when I was six months pregnant and can't believe how many things I learned to help my dog adjust to our new baby. The tips on how to introduce our pet to the new baby ensured everything went smoothly. I got a lot of peace of mind from this class. I highly recommend it."

Jeffrey P.

"I signed my wife and me up for this class because we have three small dogs. My wife was hand-feeding them every day. I knew she wouldn't have time to do this once a baby was born, yet she was stressed over stopping this behavior. Cathy was kind and gentle and explained to my wife that her dogs would eat without her assistance. My wife stopped and all was well within three days -- exactly as Cathy predicted. This class gave us so many suggestions on how to make this life transition smooth and ensure our pets didn’t feel neglected."

Sarah O.

"As soon as I said I was pregnant, my family said, "You are getting rid of your cat, right?" I took Cathy's class not only to see what steps I needed to take to prepare my feline for the new baby but to learn how to speak to my family about their concerns. She is an expert and fun and informative communicator. This class is for everyone who has pets and is having a baby.."
